The Wartime Adventures of the Lost Dreams Squad
Centre Hospitalier on rue Charité
The Centre Hospitalier on rue Charité is the largest of two major hospitals within the city walls of Langres. Two members of Codename Indigo (Dr. Bertrand Hughes and Florence Favreau) work at the hospital. Dr. Hughes is a senior member of their medical staff, as well as the SOE leader of Indigo.
In October 1941, Heer command commandeered half of the hospital and the hotel across the street for military use. According to Hughes, the Gestapo interrogated the entire medical staff including himself and Nurse Favreau while setting up the military wing. Hughes also claims that the Heer may establish a POW ward there and that he would be prepared to participate in rescue missions.
Work on the hospital finishes in November and the military ward opens. It is a long-term recovery ward for German soldiers with missing limbs. Most of the patients come from the Eastern Front. German operations in Langres are commanded by Hauptmann (Captain) Jonas Ackermann. He has 75 doctors, nurses, orderlies, and soldiers under his command.
